Can we at least open a thread to discuss the changes. The new Beta interface is not all bad, but there are a lot of changes and many of the best features are now gone (or hidden) Help

There are no changes that are good. I can explain why each change is poorer than the existing site:

      Pictures vs No Pictures
I want a site which loads quickly so I can see stories that are there. I'm a nerd so I read stuff. I don't need these pictures cluttering the display like I can't understand the summary. The editors can't get the summaries right, and the pictures don't add to the understanding either. Right now I see a picture of wires next to an article about Verizon slowing down Netflix. Yeah, ma

      • With "Load More" crap you can't search through the whole text looking for a string.

I often remembers something as mentioned by someone else or myself in a certain discussion on Slashdot.
I don't remember the details, particularly if the pertinent information is behind a link in a wider discussion, which may have taken place years ago.
But I may remember who made that comment or what we were discussing.

So, looking through my old posts, with the whole discussion loaded, I can search through it.

    • I don't think it really needs any discussion. I visit Slashdot precisely because of its layout and discussion style. If they take that away, there's nothing keeping me here that I can't get at any one of the bazillion gawker sites.

Bottom line, really: if they change it, I have no reason to come back.
    • Here is the official thread [slashdot.org]

Also, please pease please leave feedback at feedback@slashdot.org

    I've just now registered "AltSlashdot.org".

I intend to run a site much like Slashdot used to be - better articles, less decoration and less "in your face" functionality. I'm revewing and getting comfortable with slashcode right now.

I'm looking for volunteers to help with setup and running the site. If the site becomes profitable, I intend to hire from the pool of volunteers. If you've ever wanted to participate in a site like Slashdot, here's your chance!

I'm particularly in need of people who can: .) Set up and manage a high-traffic site (servers, load-balancers, data sites, &c) .) Edit story submissions .) HTML, CSS, and script creation/bugfix/repair

    Contact me if interested
