judgecorp writes: "Scientists from the University of East Anglia have made significant steps towards generating electricity from bacteria in so-called "bio-batteries. The process uses the ability of bacteria to transport electrical charge through cell membranes, and uses a synthetic version of a marine bacterium called Shewanella oneidensis. Active proteins were put into a lipid capsule which had the ability to transfer electrons with an iron electrode"
