MikeChino writes: While these days “hybrid” usually means a gasoline/electric vehicle, Valentin Technologies is exploring a different hybrid combination that promises a 5-passenger car with outstanding performance. While right now it is just a drivetrain, the company's hydraulic hybrid features a combination of weight savings, aerodynamic efficiency, regenerative braking, and engine efficiency could yield a remarkable 170 miles per gallon. The system weighs half as much as a hybrid electric and utilizes hydraulic wheelmotors for both propulsion and braking, eliminating the need for large heavy batteries and disk brakes.
