An anonymous reader writes: Running is the most primitive of physical activities known to humans. As children, as soon as we gain the balance and mobility to stand and walk, we begin exploring the world with fervor and excitement, getting from place to place the quickest way we know how: running. Even as adults, we run for enjoyment and exercise, whether in the form of a jog, marathon, or as the basis for many modern sports. Curiously, modern runners have been plagued with nagging injuries caused by the impact to their lower bodies. Shin splints, Achilles tendon tears, plantar fasciitis put thousands of amateur and professional runners and athletes on the shelf each year. For such a primitive activity, it takes quite a toll on the human body; it begs the question: are humans meant to run?
