AmigaOS Is Still Getting Updates and Upgrades 34
Mike Bouma (Slashdot reader #85,252) writes: A-EON Technology Ltd has released Enhancer Software Release 2.1 for AmigaOS4.1 FE update 2, which itself was released on 23 December 2020. It's an OS enhancement package with large amounts of updated and upgraded OS components.

If people are finding a way to make it work for them, good for them. Comedy or tragedy? How pathetic and myopic you are to feel that people who want something different succeed.
Back in the day, I fired up an old Amiga 020 with a video board - so it wasn't a latest version. Still smoother and more responsive than Windows XP. There is a reason it simply refuses to die.
The Amiga was a victim of the rank mismanagement of Commodore, not of any problems with the computer or OS.

Amiga will take couple of seconds to open every single drawer and slowly load and draw icons one by one, and then when you drag windows it drags wireframes like win3. If you insist. Because no, it doesn't take a couple of seconds to open a drawer on the cheapest floppy running A-1000d to open a drawer, that's just utter bullshit, so the rest of your post is ignored.

Pretty much the same as Digital Equipment Corporation. DEC had the greatest hardware and OS in the business pre-Compaq, and the worst salescritters. My boss took to calling Tech Support to get prices for replacement/upgrade hardware because none of the sales staff would ever call her back.

Ah yeah - we had some DEC PDP-11's I had never used them myself but the folks echoed your experience.

People still enjoy the Amiga because of its unique qualities and because it's just so much fun to work with.
It was way, way ahead of its time. It booted to a full graphical desktop in seconds, which took over 30 years for Windows to match.
Coding for it is immensely fun too. The hardware is unique and rewards skilful optimization. There are 20 different ways to do everything and finding the right one is the key to performance. Alone with the Commodore 64 it was one of those systems that captured coders imagi

Alone with the Commodore 64 it was one of those systems that captured coders imaginations and lead to some graphical effects that seemed impossible until someone pulled them off. To this day some have only ever been done once.
I started with an A500, then a 2000, then 3000, and ended with a 4000 & toaster. You're right about the optimization. My favorite, the 3000 was just a joy to use.
My least favorite part was using frame buffers and vtr frame controllers for 3d animations. Seeing what happened to the beautiful renders when they hit VHS was a real shame.
I haven't enjoyed using any computers as much since those days.

My own favorite was the A3000. That was a nice little beast.

It did appear too late maybe. Also it has had little software. A friend of mine had one. He liked it but he moved to a PC after a few years because no more software -read mostly games- were made for it.

Ironic. A site probably hasn't been slashdotted since Amigas were still being produced in any number. Kind of fun to see people still into them A friend of mine showed me the first one I ever saw. He just got a video toaster and was trying to get into the FX business for local businesses... promo videos and commercials, etc. Pretty cutting edge back in the 90s. Used the same Motorola chips that Apple used if I recall correctly.
