Qualcomm Tries To Outbid Magna For Veoneer (qualcomm.com) 4

DrTJ writes: Chipmaker Qualcomm places a bid of $4.6bn for Swedish automotive company Veoneer. As of last week, Magna offered $3.8bn for the company. Qualcomm is making an 18% higher offer, or $37 per share. Veoneer focuses its business on ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), including computer vision, radar sensing, LIDAR and drive policy software. Both Qualcomm and Magna states that they want to strengthen their ADAS position on the market by the purchase.

  • And I hope their sh1tty ADAS crap dies a death. Much prefer oldschool cars without all this assist nonsense and little electronic gismos for everything. Like the Peugeot 405
    • And get off your lawn too! But seriously, the problem I have with ADAs is if they are required for the car to operate. If they are optional, they provide benefits like covering blind spots, backup collision detection, etc.

      I felt that way until I got a car recently that has driver assist features. I got a used 2018 Subaru sedan when my little Kia got stolen from my driveway last year. It's got smart cruise control and lane assist, features I'd never pay extra for in a new car. But this one was a great deal and came with all that plus the full luxury interior package like heated seats.
