E3 Previews for Capcom, Activision 21

Next Generation is offering up dirt on E3 lineups this week. Today they have offerings on Activision and Capcom. The one that grabs my attention? "Resident Evil 5 - To be perfectly honest, it's really likely that Resident Evil 5 is going to be a prettier Resident Evil 4 with a new plot and only minor alterations. The same could be said of the jump from Resident Evil to Resident Evil 2, however, and nobody can say that that sequel wasn't worthwhile."

  • Aside from a different plot, and prettier graphics, I'd say the most noticable difference between RE 1 and 2 would be the voice acting. Which, in RE1, whas laughable at best. The game and its FMV's were great, but when people started talking... it took every scary element out of the game. A particular scene at the beginning of the game comes to mind. After a few of the STARS agents go missing Barry pipes up in the discussion, complete with random arm flailing, "Wait a minute.. This place is dangerous!"
    • You forgot about "the master of unlocking", which is probably the worst line ever uttered in a video game. I've actually heard people argue that RE's bad voice acting was intentional, that it was supposed to give the game the feel of a cheesy horror movie. That's just an excuse for mediocrity as far as I'm concerned. The rest of the game was pretty good for its time, good enough that I'm considering doing the whole thing over again on the DS.

    Shock, horror. Film at 11.

In other news, Final Fantasy 12 is an RPG, FIFA '07 is a football game, and the next Prince Of Persia will probably be a platformer, too.

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, the only company I'm actually curious about (at E3) is Nintendo. Its not that I don't think the other companies will have amazing games, but more that if you took the other developers/publishers game releases from the past 5 years you could predict what games they are going to show, what the games are going to look like, what they're going to play like, etc.
    • Next-gen's Nintendo E3 Coverage [next-gen.biz] blows:

Mario Revolution (Mario 128) Expect Nintendo to showcase their new controller's abilities with this much-anticipated title.

The Legend of Zelda It's no surprise that a Zelda game has already been confirmed for the Revolution.

Super Smash Bros. Revolution Hitting Nintendo mascots with nonsensical objects is made new again.

Animal Crossing Revolution Spend hours and hours looking for furniture on a next-gen console.

Donkey Kong Revolution The big ape will

    The sequel wasn't worthwhile.

  • The article didn't say much of anything about what platforms the games would apear on for E3.. but i figure from the screens they're mostly 360 or ps3.

Did you ever see Resident Evil 4 on the Game Cube? It was pretty close in visual quality to the screens they showed for Resident Evil 5 on that site. And the Revolution is going to be multiple times more powerful than the gamecube was, so I see no reason those screens couldn't have been for the Revolution as well.
      • Capcom has already said they have no plans to make RE5 for the Revolution. The Creative Director of the series said he'd prefer to build a new RE specifically for Revolution from the ground up, but first he'd like to make another game to get used to creating content for the controller.

So chances are, you'll see a Capcom exclusive for the Rev, but not RE5. The graphics have nothing to do with it.
