  • Nice! It IS a silly place, but very fun.
  • That was really cool. Check out the 'Jewel Quest' (indiana jones)... i liked that even better.
  • I watched this once it popped up on Ain't It Cool News (aintitcool.com) yesterday. Imagine CGI but with Legos. It looked more fluid than the old stop-motion clay-based creatures, yet I could see no obvious wires or such. It seemed very fluid, and yes, it was freaky due to the level of (I hate to say it) professionalism.

    Next thing you know, we'll have Connectix emulating Matrix, GI Joe re-creating the Gulf War, and Lincon Logs re-enacting the chopping of the cherry tree!

    • I should have worked in some wording about the Company that made a quicktime player for Linux, Then added a link to the sixth installment of ILM magic, or somthing like that on the starwars site that has Natile portman in a really hot outfit. BTW that video is interesting.

  • How can I play these on my Linux box? Is there a codec for xanim, or do I need a different player?

    • The KDE media player can handle those formats.
      • Mind giving details, please?
        It's apparently not possible to download the Windows Media movie at all (it's a streamed thing, apparently), and the codecs in the Quicktime one (Sorenson, pile of crap...) aren't recognized by xanim, which my version of the KDE 2.1.1 multimedia player uses for Quicktime movies.

        If you succeeded in playing the movies under Linux, please tell us how you did it? Thanks in advance.
        • Go to Codeweavers [codeweavers.com]. It'll cost you a couple of bucks, but it's worth it.

          Oh, and yes, this is the only thing out there that works.
        • I tried kde media player, no doesn't it supports this format, must have been a wrong comment :/

          I looked on the internet and downloaded&compiled some packages for linux who promised to play quicktime movies.

          xmovie - compiled after a small patch, but failed to load this file.
          mp2movie - promised to be able to convert quicktime movies to mpg, no go.
          lamp - installed easily with .rpm but read that this movie has a length of 0 :(

          So I tried but I could watch it, doesn't seem to be a "normal" quicktime movie, the existing linux quicktime players could play.

        • Acording to the xanim homepage this format is yet unsupported:

          So far I could find out this stream is coded using a "QDM2 Codec".
  • can you do with the lego studio product out of the box?

    I'm assuming things like the moving lips involve some kind of professional ($$$) equipment not included in the base/retail product.

    I knew I'd seen this somewhere [slashdot.org] before...
    • Slashdot's previous article is a link to screenshots. This, though similar, is an actual movie, which is more impressive, and twice as funny, IMO.
      I appreciate the thoroughness of it. Even the background characters are fully animated. The skeleton is totally peaches.

  • finally, something to put my faith back behind the human race. figures it was monty python that did it. hehe.
    on a more sensible note:
    i've read a few comments bashing both monty python and lego in the preceding threads. these people just simply need to understand that lego is news for nerds, and monty python IS stuff that matters. the original python stuff was mostly political satire and the like. it was funny...but it was also relevant. although it may have lost some of that relevance in its move across the pond to the states, the ideas behind the python group live on...the social satire melded into hilarious comedy. its something that works. don't bash it.
    as for lego...we all grew up on lego. as we get older, the company seems to offer more and more toys for us to use...and we, as a community, seem to come up with more innovative ways to use them. personally, i believe that lego promotes problem solving ability as well as sheer fun. as i've said previously: don't bash it.
    thus, only one conclusion can be drawn from this:
    MONTY PYTHON FSCKING ROCKS THE LEGO HOUSE!
  • Funny, I went to see the MPATHG re-release in the theatre last night, and after the Camelot scene, my friend turned to me and said "I think I liked the Lego one better!"

    And yes, this has been here before :P

    Another funny lego movie is Legos are not Enough. [umich.edu] I saw this at a film festival, and it beat out all the other 'serious' films, even though it was made by a bunch of engineering students whereas its competition was made by people who wore a lot of black clothing.

      This certainly explains all the sudden congestion on our cable modem line. Everyone is trying to download our movie at once. I literally just ran up the stairs to tell my roommates (whom I made the movie with) that we were being Slashdotted. Wow.

      I had thought about submiting our site (and movie) to Slashdot before. After all, the editors seem to be suckers for "LEGOmation" stories. I thought better of it, though. So, thank you for posting Mr. Anonymous Coward, sir. (Who are you, btw?)

      For the record, though, we aren't all engineers. Two of us are studying Computer Engineering. One is studying Architecture, and the other is studying History. Also, let me just quickly mention that we won awards at that film festival for "Best of Show" and "Most Original."
