Half of adults with HIV are women

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Women make up nearly half of the 37.2 million adults living with HIV according to a U.N. report released on Tuesday.

"Increasingly the face of AIDS is young and female," said Dr. Kathleen Cravero, deputy executive director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

It was also revealed that half of all adults are in fact women. What are the odds of that? This is amazing stuff.

They are trying to overcome attitudes that HIV is a problem for homosexual men to worry about. There's a lot of worry over here (in Britain) in scientific circles that the condom / prevention message that was so successful in the eighties is being largely ignored, even in homosexual communities safe sex is being practiced less.
