Journal Abm0raz's Journal: I'm not proud 20

Tonight, I drove drunk. I know this because I'm still drunk while writing this. I had several opportunities to stay with various people tonight while at the bar, then at an after hours party, but all fell through.
The first fell through when a cute girl that I've been flirting with for the last 3 weeks at the bar tried to take me home and her younger sister (who I used to work with) cut her off and made her leave.
The second fell through when my usual fall back who lives downtown decided that he was going to invite his girl over for the night (not that I can blame him, since I set them up) and I lost my couch for the night.
I had the opportunity to stay on my fraternity's couches down stairs, but I had no blanket and tried that last weekend. The chattering of my own teeth woke me up last week (and again tonight). The difference is last week I didn't wake up until 6am and was sober. Tonight I woke 15 min after falling asleep.

So I drove the 4-5 blocks home. I'm not proud. I'm not happy about it. It's noone's fault but my own. Tomorrow, I will need to verify a downtown sleep spot before going out rather than assuming my buddy's couch will be there.

After 12 years as a volunteer fireman specializing in vehicle rescue, I'm just glad I didn't do anything stupid to require my peers' work.

I'm not proud

  • I know it was dumb.
    I know it's wrong.
    I feel bad about it.
I only wrote about it because I need to remind myself in the future.
I've driven home before after a night of drinking, but tonight was the first time I was efver worried about it. I drink a lot. I've passed a breathalizer after 26 shots in 5hrs, but tonight, something just felt wrong and it bothers me.

I could keep babbling on, but I think it's best just to sleep on it and hate myself in the morning rather than dwell on it more tonight.

    • indeed.
I've accidentally walked several miles home after too many drinks.

"Taxi? Bah, rip off. I'll walk....." 3 miles later, sobering up slightly, " .. hrm sure is cold, wonder why I didn't get a cab like normal people?"

There are these things called taxi cabs. They are cars, much like your own, but what's cool about these taxi cabs is that *other* people drive them for you! Yeah, you just give them some money... and a vague notion of where you want to go and whalla! You, as if by magic, appear where you want to go!

So... next time Ab... take a cab.

/blinder looks around for his sharpie marker, tags a black X on the wall

better yet! don't drink!!! no more p

    • Hell, *i* drink.

but the kid's got a point.

*grins, grabs sharpie, marks both Ab's hamds with an X*

still like you, Ab. Do it again and i'll hunt you down and kick your ass.

This time, i'll let you do that yourself.

*draws a smiley on blinder's hand and runs for the door*

Now... add a star here and there, maybe a heart and put a smiley face... riiiiiiight... here!

        There... pretty!

still like you, Ab. Do it again and i'll hunt you down and kick your ass.

Trust me Ab, you don't want an angry dragon after your ass... you'll barely be an appetizer

Um, dude...It's spelled "voila!", not "walla" or "whalla".

  • keep a blanket and pillow (or large stuffed animal, the girls like that better anyway. I use a penguin. your animal may vary) in the trunk of your car.

that way, you always have a place to stay and be warm, even if it's in the car.

that said, I'll be staying over Adam's tonight, and will be staying over John's next saturday night. I love this time of the year ^_^
    • You know that'ss illegal in PA, right? If you enter your car while drunk with the keys in your posession, you are guilty of drunk driving, even if you never start the car. My old manager spent a week in jail for DUI when he got in his car to retrieve his back-pack, cd-player, and a few other things while drunk. The worst part was, his car was on aa tow-truck at the time. But he had called the cops cause the driver from Walk's (you were from Penn State, right?) wouldn't let him get his valuables out. Wh
      • I wasn't aware you could get a DUI for just sleeping in the car, with it parked, and off. That's just stupid. But thanks for the heads up, that'll come in handy.

you were from Penn State, right?

Not quite. Doylestown, but close enough. Nobody here likes DelVal anyway (which is right around the corner, literally) and would be more than happy to be considered Penn State territory.
  • I'm with the "why didn't you just walk home" crowd. Of course, I understand how decision-making gets impaired at these times, and have, myself, wrecked my car while driving home drunk. Someone up above was looking out for me, because I didn't kill myself (or worse, kill someone else) and didn't attract any attention from the police. I realize not everyone is quite as lucky.

Having seen you at your most intoximicated, and knowing the crowd you usually hang out with, the thing that's most disappointing is
    • Yeah, I was the last one up. Fall '94 representin'.

Just one of those things. I've driven home at 5am numerous times. Usually cause I slow down and just sip a beer to sober up for an hour or 2, but I just got really cold and bored and for some reason, extra drunk (on less than I usually drink). Just baad judgement on my part.

I was no-where near Shady levels of drunk driving nor even close to Joe Houk levels. Just cold and buzzed enough to have a one-track "gotta get home" thought in my mind.

      • Wow, heat miser has gone a little too far. Is Partridge back in charge?

In any event, glad you made it home fine. I'm going to try to make it up sometime next semester once I'm all settled in at the new job. Hopefully by then the heat will be turned on again.
        • yeah, heard you got to move to a football city. :)

ps. before you make any argument, remember that our "fat, old, over-the-hill running back" had more yards on the ground than your entire team had total offense.
          • I'm not making any arguments at all. Styles make fights, and your strengths are our weaknesses. If the "All Pennsylvania Super Bowl" happens, I don't like Philly's chances, not the way they're playing the run, anyway.
