  • As funny as it is, it's probably the first time people openly try to get the message across that this whole 'god bless america' cult is very shortsighted and at best a way to get braindead people to cheer the country on for no good reason. At least, I hope that is the message. It tries to de-patronize the average reader, which is a good thing.

But I have my doubts about the efficiency. Turning religious statements into political statements is never right. And, quit biblically, it's not because one party
    • So while this website is pretty rude but funny and probably with the right intentions, it's not truely atheist.

Is this actually an athiest web site? I'm really stinkin' confused, because at first I thought it was an athiest mocking Christians (esp. after reading your post- oh crap, I head to the comments before the article like everybody else! ;-) ). Then I read a comment in Safety Cap's journal that sounded like it was a website by a Christian "extremist" (I'll get to that in a minute). AND THEN, I s
      • Is this actually an athiest web site?

No, it isn't. Unfortunately Fred Phelps and his followers are quite real [biblicalrecorder.org].

Anyway, if they are Christian "extremists" (I use that word with trepidation, because their vigor seems misapropriated), they really scare me (that's saying a lot, considering that I have been classified by some as a Christian wacko ;-) ). They intentionally misquote the Bible, peppering "fags" and "America", among other things, wherever they see fit, and they've somehow extrapolated that all
        • I haven't looked at Fred's site, but just out of curiousity where specifically is he misquoting the bible? Usually people like him are quoting the passages that christians like to pretend don't exist.

He does quote some of those kinds of verses- I give him credit for that.

I actually spoke too soon on the ones on God Hates America. It looked like he substituted America for Israel in some verses, but I actually mis-read the placement of the quotation marks. Sorry :-/.

I remember the other one being
          • I remember the other one being a New Testament quote from the FAQ on God Hates Fags (I wanted to say it was from Acts, but I searched the file and couldn't find one from Acts like this). The original verse spoke about "sinners" and, instead of "sinners", he put "homosexuals" (or an equivilent term). Now, homosexuality is clearly defined in the Bible as a sin, so the substitution is half-right in that sense, but, by doing it, that verse is now specifically applied to homosexuals, rather than to its original

Suggest you just sit there and wait till life gets easier.
