Journal Glonoinha's Journal: GAIM - It's not just for breakfast anymore

She was bright, cute, educated, interested, and wanted to skip from email to IM.
And she was on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). DOH

She asked me to download AIM and make an account - that wasn't gonna happen. But I did spark up Gnome and find GAIM, plugged in a username / password and was up and chatting. Decided it would be cool to use GAIM to chat up my existing MSN network of friends, but I had to update my system first.

Learned all about tracking down dependency issues, finding all the SourceForge RPMs for all the packages I needed, learned some syntax for RPM (rpm -Uhv installs a package, I figured that out ...) and finally got GAIM version 0.75 running and now I am up and running with my MSN/IM buddy list.

Probably never meet her, but if I do I will have to thank her for pushing me deeper into learning how Linux works, inter-relates, and updates.
