You know you've really made someone mad when that happens. I can't wait to get one following me where I don't already know who it is. It's like a surprise party, you know your friends really care when they do that, but when they do such a poor job of it that you know what's up it just doesn't feel as nice.
Carivals used to have a couple'a naked girlies in a tub. People (ok, so it was probably all guys, how many lesbians were really "out" at that time?) would pay a few pennies and get a show. Yay for them.
So, the origin of the rhyme is probably along the lines of:
Three maids in a tub, And who do you think was there? The butcher, the baker, The candlestick maker; And all of them gone to the fair.
Sort of telling on those shop keepers to the town folk that they liked to look at naked ladies.

Alas, fairs don't have those naked girls in a tub any more for people to go look at (you do know the history of that rhyme, right?)
