  • all of the above and then some.

    Some like the tech.

    Some like polls.

    Some like hearing about molls.

And others, well, they like the drama.

And, btw, it probably didn't come across this way, but I was semi-joking about the karma thing. didn't realize everyone was so touchy about it.

I mean, who cares what I have to say? It's not like I'm an authority here or something.
    • It's not like I'm an authority here or something.

That's why I love the internet. Any crackpot with a computer and some time and spout off their ideas and I'm free to listen to them. It's either that or go back to playing with the ball and cup game. Something needs to kill the time I'm at work.
    • Ya like that huh(^;

karma fartma...like everyone is saying. It'll come eventually. I just find it amusing that so many feathers are rustled.

  • Karma.

I'm planning ahead for my afterlife.
  • As far as I'm concerned, people should be typing what they honestly think.

If I don't like it (and from your past entries, I doubt that would be the case), I always have the unfriend button which will magically shelter me from having to know about the fact your journalling. I could even hit foe, push you down to -7, and never have to see you again if that was how I felt.

However as I said, I doubt it would be.
  • Let it rip. Whatever you want to talk about, go for it. If I don't want to read it, then I won't, but that shouldn't keep you from writing whatever you want in YOUR journal. ;)
  • Yes, we like you just fine!

type what you like, and the reality is that you'll probably wander through all of those at some point or another. It's oke to ask questions, even silly questions like what does IIRC mean or what's the blue screen of death. It's oke to blither about your life. It's oke to ask us to blither about ours. It's acceptable to post polls. It's acceptable to post rants. IT's oke to be crazy (who isn't?)

I think the main response that you're going to get is a resounding, "Yes, we like you

  • It's like saying the right to drink legally is earned. Karma is accrued. In the same way that diabetes is accrued. Yeah, there's the stuff in the /. FAQ that explains what/why/where/how Karma [slashdot.org]. But that's all mechanical.

The inevitablilty over time of getting to Good karma, at which you post default at 2, is achieved in about a year or 200 discussion posts (similar to getting an oil change for your car).

After that excellent Karma comes nigh instantaneously (say 50 more posts). Then you're off to the ra
    • i had excellent karma within months of setting up my user ID, mainly because i kept my mouth shut unless i could find links to add (not knowing anything else.) I was surprised when it turned out to be excellent; i hadn't been paying attention (not knowing what karma was or what to do with it.) I don't expect it to take you more than four or five months.

It is true that it's accrued, and that's a very good point, but it's accrued by posting, not just waiting, and if you always post troll comments, it won't

      • Well yes, "barring you aren't a prick" you will accrue Karma. Since bluefairee doesn't seem to be a troll UID, I thought that this was understood by all parties and thus it could go without saying.
    • A year, eh? Wow.

I would like to add a note to that, and that is I think it *really* boosts your karma if you can get a story accepted on the front page. I did so on my 4th day on /., and I think that's when I got "good" karma. It can be a bit hit-or-miss, but if you manage to find a good story and do a decent job of "selling" it in your write-up, it's really not very hard. So far I've gotten 2 of 7 submissions accepted -- and I was a Latin American Studies major in college.

      Good luck!

  • damnit man! when you make a poll, don't offer a z!!! you ruin it for us punk rock rebellious types to "fuck the system" and make up our own options. So... i'm beside myself... I don't know what to do!

so... option z. will be "to do as Em does, and drool"

oh yeah... post what ever you want. Trust me here, in that the folks here are incredibly tolerant... just look at my journal and you'll quickly learn that yes, these folks will read just about damn near anything! (said with sincere affection and admiration)
  • that is what i am known for here. well, in b you can remove the karma. 50 is good enough, and i rarely lose some, and easily gain some. hey, this sounds like a woman talking about her weight ;-)

It is easier to write an incorrect program than understand a correct one.
