Journal bigdreamer's Journal: The Adventures of Girl Geek! Episode I 2

I recently looked at a Slashdot poll that said 95% of Slashdotters are men. (I know the polls aren't accurate, but wow! 5% female??? I thought there were less of us here! ;)) So anyway, I thought some of you may be curious about life on the other side. What are women like, why some of us are geeks, sex, college (Oh yeah, I'm in college!), Buddhism, Christianity, politics, current events, my ethnicity, other random observations, etc.

Oh, in case you were wondering, I'm committed to another geek. But that probably won't stop some of you from trying to pick me up. f people ask any questions I'll answer them if and when I feel like it. So make them good. This episode is meant to be short, introductory in nature and doesn't really contain a story. Mainly because I have 2 Perl projects, 1 HTML (sad but true) assignment, and 3 tests next week.

  • From going through Engineering in college, I can tell you that there was under 20 girls that were engineers (one wasn't a geek, but got by through sharing homework and bugging the hell outta the smart kids). Anywho, I found something interesting about them (well, most of them were chemical engineers, which wasn't my main point, but a point): They were all married or engaged. It appears that "geek girls" are in high demand and rare gems.

That being said, my wife isn't a "geek", but isn't dumb either. She works in daycare (assistant director and other management positions, but prefers to teach the young'ins), but everytime we take a "mensa practice test", she beats the absolute tar outta me. I guess she smart all around, where my intelligence is problem solving??

Wow... I got off topic... Guess I have a case of the "Mondays"...
    • That makes sense. I'm engaged, too. (Well, not officially-no ring yet. But the BF did get down on his knees and gave me a bracelet (which was later lost), but enough with the technicalities.)

I occasionally write editorials for my college paper, and I'm tired of hearing girls say there aren't enough guys to date. They're all in the sciences, that's why. Date geeks! They're great!
