Journal ian_po's Journal: QwestDex.com search feature sucks

Original Message Follows:

This email is regarding the search function of QwestDex.com

I did a search for "local 7" in "wheat ridge, CO". The only time your
crap ass search engine ever made a match with exactly what I typed in
was when I entered "United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7" which is
the exact name the listing has. If I knew I had to type the exact name
to find what I was looking for it might have saved time. Take a lesson
from google.com and allow searches like "local 7" to match to "United
Food & Commercial Workers Local 7" (and any other business with local 7
in its name) as 'local 7' is contained within the business title.
Otherwise what is the point of having a search engine.

Hey Ian,

Thanks for those very kind words. But don't mistake your ignorance on
the subject of directory regulation for us having a poor search
function..

We are NOT a search engine or search function such as google.com. We
are an on-line version of the QwestDex directory. As the on-line
version of the directory, we MUST list the names EXACTLY as they appear
in the directory. If people want to be found listed different ways in
the printed directory, they must pay for those additional listings. The
same is true for the on-line directory. If United Food & Commercial
Workers Local & wants to be found in the phone book as Local 7, they may
buy and additional listing.

Think about it Ian, would you look in the printed book for Local 7?
Would you look for a McDonalds under Mickey D's? No.

Now, we are fully aware that there are search engines that can find
similar business names, but that is not the business we are in. We are
a Yellow Pages advertiser. The free service that we provide you of the
White Pages Business look up is paid to you by the Yellow Pages
advertisers who find our sight highly successful.

Again, I am sorry that you do not like our site. If you are looking for
a particular business, google.com is great. If you are looking for a
service or product and don't have a particular business in mind, give us
a shot.

Thanks,
Paul
