Journal FortKnox's Journal: DoD v2.0 5
Holy Sh*t!!
After playing Day Of Defeat, version 2.0 this weekend, all I can say is "WOW!"
I've played the previous version, and it was a good game. The amount of stuff pumped into this new version, however, is enormous, allowing a much different experience.
For the first time, I find myself slowly advancing the line of combat, ducking in dark corners, trying to avoid an onslaught of nazi's. I, actually, was getting nervous in my seat while I played some of the maps. The amount of realism is incredible (but still being fun), the way they balanced the game is GREAT, but most of all, the "feel" of the whole environment is EXCELLENT.
I have a feeling many lost hours of sleep in my future will be due to this halflife mod!

Admin mod (for CS) made a great little tactic that allowed cheaters to log in, then kills them as soon as they start playing, making cheaters really frustrated (having to log into a server, wait to get into the action, then dying as soon as you do, to start all over again).
And, because DoD is using the newest version of the halflife engine, and aware of all the cheats that are currently circulating, they were able to stop everyone of them.
I have yet to see a cheat on DoD.
As far as the grenades, DoD is a realistic game (only a few shots to kill), if a grenade lands a few steps from you, it'll at least do enough damage that you need to stop and bandage.
It doesn't have a large blast radius (if you see it coming, you can usually run away), but if it lands at your feet, you'll be dead.

I admit, I only played a few levels, and only with a few other people that were playing for the first time too, but it didn't grab us.
Not to say it's not a good game, it's just not my cup 'o tea.
On the other hand, if your UT mod idea could incorporate some of the "feel" and "play" of this mod, yet run on the UT engine...that might be a whole other ball of wax.

That makes a large difference.
And, BTW, I'm not dropping the UT mod idea... its still morphing around in my mind. Gotta have a pretty solid idea, then a decent design before I go on a coding fest.
