Xandar01's Journal: This Sucks?

Well, yesterday morning I got laid off. It sucks as it forces me to actually look for work now.

My company has been through a lot of shrinking and I had survived several rounds of layoffs. I was frustrated with the apparent lack of direction and the poor communication from upper management. I had been planning to look for work after this fall semester. This weekend I'll be polishing the resume and getting that ready to go. If anyone is interested I'll update this in a few days with links to my resume.

My wife and I had also been trying to decide whether or not we should move to San Diego County, CA or possibly Raleigh, NC. We have family in both locations, but no real family here in Santa Clarita, CA. Currently we favor San Diego County.

Despite the company's shortcomings I think packet of information they gave me regarding job hunting is pretty decent info. Most of it I already knew though thanks to all job hunting/resume classes the military provided on my way out.

I'm truly sorry to hear that. Was it a complete surprise? I hope they gave you some notice; the lack of it irks me more than nearly anything. I can appreciate the "bottom line" perspective, but how can people be so inhuman? At least I've known since March that I'll no longer be working there in January.

Once you post links to your reZOOM, I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled when I'm looking (not that I do this much, since my company fell from 1800 in 2001 to eventually around 60 ;).

In completely unrelated news, I think there's something weird with the way /. is displaying time. I got an email (yes, I subscribe; sue me) that you had a new journal entry at 7:04 am. I'm in Colorado, so that would be 6 am in California, yet your journal entry timestamp is 9:04.

It's 9:25 MDT now, and my reply to your journal says I posted at 9:23.

Okay, damit. NOW your journal entry is stamped at 7:04, but I swear I'm not crazy; I triple-checked before I bothered to post in the first place.

I stopped trying to understand the time thing. I posted 6:04 am Pacific. I have /. set to show me all times in Pacific. (Although this time issue makes a little more difficult to rate redundant posts while moderating.)

It's a last ditch effort, worst-case scenario. You know my wife's entire family is on the east coast and so is my mom and sister. However, my dad has been fighting pretty hard to keep me in SoCal. I don't think he wants me to take the grandkids away. I am 90% certain that I'll wind up within an hours drive of Oceanside.
