Funny name: an analysis

  • It's the alliterative quality of repeating the "er/ur" sound in both words.

    Also the ridiculous ("Turd") mixed with the average ("Ferguson") appeals to our sense of irony -- it's unexpected, and therefore strikes us as funny.

    I bet you were hoping for something witty, hunh? Nope. Not this afternoon.

    • Nope, I really wasn't expecting something witty. Rather, I find your sociological/linguistic approach to the Turd Ferguson phenomena refreshing.
