People range from Lary Wall to Taran King.

It starts out good, but then it seems to degenerate into a list of known script kiddies.

Sure, a couple of important security figures would have been fine, but I wouldn't have categorized most of those guys with Dennis Ritchie or Linus Torvalds. "Defaced a few web sites, including NASA" is nothing compared to "started an OS revolution, changing the face of the IT industry"

I don't understand why lesser-known crackers are included in this list. I can understand the Kevin Mitnick's and the RMS's but 'Rain Forest Puppy' and 'Simple Nomad'? If I were Vint Cerf, I don't think I would take to kindly being put in this group.

If they were going to get criminal, why didn't they include the famous Bill Gates mug shot [markbarry.com]? (I want that sweater!)

RFP and Nomad are neither lesser-known, "crackers" (assuming you mean breaking into sites) nor criminals.

I guess lesser-known is relative to what circles one runs in. I see your point on those guys (and others). I would argue that perhaps one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter?

Which? That I know some of them? Yeah, just saw a bunch of them last week at Blackhat and Defcon. Kevin Mitnick, Darci, and I won Hacker Jeopardy. :)
