Journal MarvinMouse's Journal: Offer to any antispam company 6

I receive over 200+ spams a day... Most of which are unique. I am willing to forward these spams to any antispam company on a regular basis so that they can get a really large sample of different spam sent out daily and determine how best to program their software to prevent it.

In exchange, I do ask for some free spam filtering software, or something to reduce the sheer amount of spam I receive daily.

Offer to any antispam company

  • just like the subject says - why not?

At one time I was getting 500 or so spam a day and now I'm down to about 2 a week. (although the bulk of that was changing the way the server handled e-mails that were sent to non-existant addresses... well, some of them - but spamassassin gets over 100 each day for me)
    • How can I install spamassassin when I do not have full control over my server that received mail for me?
      • Is it a Unix/Linux/FreeBSD system? I presume you have an account on it (or is it simply a mailbox)?

If it is a *nix system and you have an account, then you can install the Perl version of it - but not the c daemon version of it.

I currently am on a shared server - I don't have root access on it, but I have my account there. I have installed spamassassin's Perl version in there and it has helped me tremendously.
They have a section of the install document [spamassassin.org] that goes into what you need to do if you don't have
  • A domain name that I use for one of my web sites used to belong to an ISP (five years ago). There has not been a valid e-mail address set up for this domain in the time that I've used it. Last I checked, I was bouncing 2000 spam messages a day for that domain. If anyone wants 'em, I can direct them anywhere.
  • Remember the Simpsons episode where Homer visited a universe where it rained donuts? Spam is so abundant a commodity I doubt anyone will compensate you for it in any way. It's too easy to collect your own spam.

SpamCop [spamcop.net], for example, are probably getting enough voluntary submissions that they don't anyone's donation. They refuse submissions over 3 days old.

You won't get much in exchange, other than the satisfaction that a small percentage of the spammers you report are being tossed from their ISP's and wo

    • I used to use the free spamcop submission service, but I just didn't have the time to manually go through each and every e-mail.

I would really love to get back at these guys spamming me, but I just don't want to spend the money on it, and don't have the time to use spamcop.

Suggest you just sit there and wait till life gets easier.
