Journal Chacham's Journal: Opinions on opinions, and a Rush Limbaugh quote 2

(Note: the quotes are not exact. They are how I can recall them.)

Many times I've told people, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it's just that mine is the only one that counts." And most people seem to understand it with the humor that it was intended.

In my opinion, there are two types of opinions on understanding opinions. When it comes to facts, there is only one thing. As my younger brother pointed out to me, "a fact is what is". People may not believe the facts, or they may have seen something else, but whatever the facts are, are facts. There is no arguing with the facts. There is only arguing if they are facts. However, opinions are different. Mostly everyone agrees that everyone is entitled to an opinion. And even if the other person is clearly wrong, they still have the right to an opinion. For example, someone can be of the opinion that CNN is a centrist news agency. They're clearly wrong, yet they are entitled to believe it if they want to. The issue is, does anyone have to consider other people's opinions as well. I have opinions, and your opinions may disagree with mine. Do I have to listen to yours? If I do listen to yours do I have to think about it? I certainly don't think so. Yet, many people believe that you *must* hear the other opinions. I disagree, but they're entitled to their opinions. So, I put it simply. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, but mine is the only one that counts.

So, I heard Rush Limbaugh today for a few minutes. Some lady called in and was complaining that he was using names to describe Democrats or others that disagreed with him. Some conversation ensued, until she said, "You're calling the people who disagree with you names." He responded, "It's not that they disagree with me, it's that they're wrong!" It was a beautiful retort, that well fit the situation. I think Rush can be a wonderful entertainer.

On a side note, I went to buy a sandwich recently. While I was waiting for it, I was bothering the guy behind the counter. He asked, "Why are you bothering me?" I responded, "I only bother people that allow themselves to be bothered." He smiled and agreed with me.

That was inserted in there in the spirit of the entire "right cuz I said so" thingy, hehe.

Euros think CNN is pro war, American's think CNN is anti-war. . . . LOL!

If you haven't had enough of me, read this [slashdot.org] comment. It all makes perfect sense.

Anyone can make an omelet with eggs. The trick is to make one with none.
