Just block 'em (Score:2)
At least for the new, brown "sponsored" article summaries that appear all over the place, you can use this filter to block them in uBlock: slashdot.org##.ntv-sponsored-806
That'll block them both in the firehose and under the individual article summaries.

Yeah, looks like it was a bit too specific to the ad that was showing at the time. This should work more generally, hopefully:
slashdot.org##article[class*="ntv-sponsored-"]
