Journal stoolpigeon's Journal: Couple links that don't appear to work any more 4

https://slashdot.org/journal.pl?op=edit and https://slashdot.org/journal.pl?op=list&uid=454276 get me Internal Server Errors - don't know if it a site problem or if they aren't going to let them work any more. Unfortunate as I preferred the old interface on those. I've fixed the one to write a JE - https://slashdot.org/journal and the list of journals - https://slashdot.org/my/journal. Losing the old journal list is the one that makes me really sad - the new one has so much white space and scrolling back involves using the "Many More" button. I don't know any way via URL to get back to the start. And I guess the list will just get longer and longer - it doesn't page.

We really, really need a journal export function. They could even put the button for it at the bottom of the journal list - like the one to write new JEs.

Oh my word - and now that I'm on this new JE writing page - I see the little icons on the left. I didn't want this to be news - so I clicked the little x by news. And it didn't remove news - it added !news. what is that???

All right - I'm not going to be negative. Going to focus on that positive -- just surprised that someone thought that was a good design decision.

Couple links that don't appear to work any more

  • Tried all day yesterday to make a JE. Finally posted it this morning from the non-list list. Seems they completely changed the JE interface, at least in FireFox.

  • Used those links extensively. So, from now on, digging out an old JE will be like drawing blood from stone.

That might actually be the last straw for me. I'll slowly go through my journals once so I can extract them, and then that's it. Screw this place.

It's almost like they hire the best designers, listen to what they have to say, and then do the opposite. They are so in love with their Web 2.0 crap, they've destroyed much of the usability of this site.

  • I'd like to be able to get back to some of the earlier ones - but there are literally thousands or them. Hate to see them all go, but there's not much that I can do. I suppose that I could just delete them all.
