Over the past few months I've become acquainted with someone affiliated with a company that provides "new media" services to corporations and individuals. They have teams of people whose job is entirely to corrupt online discussions and communities. The techniques range from promoting a product or service to spreading FUD to diluting negative comments about their clients by throwing up cut&paste spam. Agreed - I posted a list of names of the people who worked there in a journal post a while back.
I have contacted Slashdot asking for an option to filter UIDs greater than a number, I would instantly add a filter to UIDs greater than 18 xxx xxxx or whatever it is.
