Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Who is on the side of democracy here? 38

There has been plenty of discussion on the Democrat's sit-in on capital hill, and the GOP response. The first interesting question here though is who is actually on the side of democracy here. The Democrats are not delusional enough to think that these bills actually have a snowball's chance in hell of passing in the house; the republicans will vote together and defeat all of them. Hence the Democrats are asking for a vote so that it can be shown that it was voted on. The GOP is dead set on denying that vote from occurring.

Which leads to the second question - what is Paul Ryan afraid of? He knows these bills won't pass. He can use their failure to pass as another chance to label the Democrats as "out of touch"; he really doesn't have a losing hand here.

Who is on the side of democracy here?

  • You see fear where there is none, and no democracy when it's right there in front of you. AFAIK the Speaker sets the legislative agenda for the House. Ryan's been duly elected to the House, and duly elected to the Speakership. So for the time being, he says what gets voted on, and the minority party is free to protest that. Democracy is majority rule, and what's happening is the majority is ruling.

    • Democracy is majority rule, and what's happening is the majority is ruling.

It's a shame no one told McConnell that eight years ago.
      • Yeah, well, it wasn't like he met up with any opposition, was it? That's why the democrats suck. They don't really oppose what the republicans do. I mean, really, why would they? They still win enough elections. They just rotate the villainy back and forth while the suckers fall in for the 'lesser evil' shtick to reelect them for five or six terms. Damn near all of them could be blackmailed into prison by one of the others. *Assassins accusing assassins* It's why they tread so lightly.

        Here's a simple fact.

        • Yeah, well, it wasn't like he met up with any opposition, was it? That's why the democrats suck.

That's some, uh, penetrating insight you got there.

I mean, really, why would they?

You and I went over this already. It was brief, as is your wont, but it was covered.

          They still win enough elections.

You're still stuck in that 90s mentality, as they're doing quite a bit better than that. Consider this: The Democrats have won 5 of the last 6 presidential vote counts.

          They just rotate the villa
        • If you vote for democrats or republicans, your complaints are frivolous.

OMFG I am an idiot! Here I am acting in good faith, AGAIN, and I have this gorgeous, succinct Freudian slip sitting right there.

Behold, the underlying principle of the Third Party Loser: Voting Quixotically Because Being Able To Bitch Like Whiny Fucking Baby Is The Goal.

Yes, that is exactly what the vote for a democrat/republican says. Thank you...

            • Yes, that is exactly what the vote for a democrat/republican says.

And, as usual, this assertion is backed up with sweet fuck all. You suck at rebutting. How's that constituency-building going?
              • What's to rebut? Look around... contradiction, you're soaking in it. I'm not interested into manipulating people into a "constituency" of followers. That's your bag. I only mock your moaning about how the "system is rigged" while I watch you do the rigging, all while denying it, passing the blame, pretending complete innocence. See, I know how a steam engine works, but I can sit and watch it operate for hours. It's hypnotic, so is your game, even if I can't play, I like to watch.

                • contradiction, you're soaking in it

Christ, more nonsense. Maybe I'm being too charitable. Maybe you're just that fucking lazy.

I'm not interested into manipulating people into a "constituency" of followers.

I already know this. It's one of the core reasons why you and yours keep failing. Even something as drastic as a revolution needs more than a couple of special snowflakes in order to get past the jerking off stage.

                  That's your bag.

Nah, my previous examples are more than adequate. There's no need to re-post something that won't be read again.

Since you are going to say little more than, *I know you are... bla bla bla", there's little else to do...

                    • my previous examples are more than adequate.

                      Heh. Comedian, this one.

                      re-post

You have to actually say something before you can even get the chance to repost it.

Since you are going to say little more than, *I know you are

I actually LOL'ed. My coworkers are looking at me. Worth it though.
          • Please continue to complain. You deserve everything you get.

            • Sez the one who prattles on endlessly of the evil Mr. Cheney,

You may want to go back and re-read those posts. I have nothing but admiration for Dick, as I have for any human who achieve feats that no other human has been able to do. Admiration is not predicated on approval.

You're the one who has nothing but contempt for those you oppose, stretching all the way down to lil ol' me.

So, AGAIN, stop using your mirror as a measure. narcissism is not only personally ugly, but a useless albatross weigh
          • Behold, the underlying principle of the Third Party Loser: Voting Quixotically Because Being Able To Bitch Like Whiny Fucking Baby Is The Goal.

You got an important part wrong, there. Fusta doesn't vote, period. He doesn't vote D, he doesn't vote R, he doesn't vote third party, he doesn't even go vote Mickey fucking Mouse. He just simply doesn't vote. After all, he would be one hell of a hypocrite to come here and tell people not to vote if he were himself actually voting.

            • :-) I get aroused when you lie about me. It reaffirms everything I've said.

              • Sorry to be such a buzzkill on that department, then. Maybe I can find something about you to lie about later.
                • No man.. You did good, it's just your regular lie. Thanks

                  • If only that word meant what you have convinced yourself it means, then you would have something to say.
                    • Believe what you want. You're just a simple liar, that's all. Your denials are of no use.

                    • You put a whole lot of time into telling people not to vote. Hence for you the options that exist are either you do not yourself vote, or you are a hypocrite. Which one is it?
                    • You put a whole lot of time into telling people not to vote.

That of course is a mistaken belief on your part...

                    • That of course is a mistaken belief on your part...

The "belief" is based on the very words you post here. Unfortunately for you, those words cannot be deleted. You have put a lot of effort in to discouraging people from voting.

                    • It's okay. Unlike the others, I don't mind when you lie about me. I'm not offended by words. So, you just keep on lyin'. It's all good...

                    • Unlike the others, I don't mind when you lie about me

You say that, but we have no example by which to base that on. I could lie about you and say you are a three-headed reptoid from Mars (or, at least, I can be reasonably confident before hand that is likely not the case) but I would have to take your word on your reaction - hence making the exercise pointless. Instead I will just continue to make statements about you based upon what you write here. Your writings more than sufficiently support my statement that you work hard to discourage people from voti

                    • Again you simply repeat mistaken beliefs. A little long winded this time, but the same old shit.

    • You see fear where there is none,

Really? It sure looks to me that Ryan is afraid to allow a vote on this. He knows that the bills will all fail, yet he refuses to allow a vote on them. He has happily sat through a great many frivolous ACA repeal votes, knowing that they are a waste of time and money, and yet he won't allow these bills to be voted on.

If he is not afraid then he should allow these to be voted on. It's not like they have any chance of being passed.

      • It sure looks to me that Ryan is afraid to allow a vote on this.

This is like a pipsqueak saying to a hulking dude, hey, let's fight, and when muscles says get lost, the shrimp says what are you afraid of. No one thinks Ryan is afraid.

He has happily sat through a great many frivolous ACA repeal votes,

While I would agree on the frivolity of it, I really think the explanation for having votes for the latter and none for the former is "because he can". The Dems weren't going to get more gun control legislation passed with their sit-in, but they did it because they felt like it

voter oppression at the ballot box

(It's typically "voter suppression", but we can go with that

        • No one thinks Ryan is afraid.

There is no "fear" or any other feelings for democracy to speak of. There is only money and theater and an audience that believes.

And unlike what d_r wants to believe, a republican vote against "gun control" won't cost them any votes either.

Again more phony feel good "liberalism" from the dems... nothing to do with the real thing, but it keeps their fans in line. Don't want any of them and their money to drift over to the Greens, who they will blame of course if Trump wins.

          • I can't help but wonder if anyone can parse what the fuck you're talking about here. You make Gary Johnson look absolutely all there; if the Libertarians are nuts, I shudder to think what the Greens must be like.

            • I can't help but wonder if anyone can parse what the fuck you're talking about here.

Ha! If Bill Dog thinks your English is atrocious, you done fucked up.
            • What's not to understand? You just don't like the message pointing out that your silly politics is nothing but theatrics.

              • I couldn't make any sense of the message, to even be able to decide whether I liked it or not.

And CS is wrong, your English is fine, it's just that you:
                1) Operate from a completely difference experience of modernity than everyone else, and
                2) Your comments are mostly like inside jokes, where if one doesn't already know what you're thinking, there's precious little chance of decoding the meaning.

                • I couldn't make any sense of the message

Yes, yes, nice excuse. I won't dwell on such diversions.

You see idealism where there are only actors and hired guns. That's something you don't like to hear, so you won't comprehend, or will deny. Nobody likes being told they've been taken for a ride. They become defensive and confrontational, and usually dig in their heels. As all of you are doing here. It's classic. This is part of the phenomenon that gives Trump a real chance at grabbing the ring, or guarantees tha

        • Ryan doesn't want any bills to pass because he wants to be Trump's replacement when the GOP officially crown their candidate for president. This way, he doesn't piss off the NRA and their followers, etc.

          • I thought he was reluctant to even just take the Speaker role, because he liked leaving Washington regularly and heading back home. He didn't want the extra commitment. I see no reason to disbelieve that, or to believe that it's suddenly changed and now he's willing to become basically a permanent fixture (for a number of years) in DC.

          • Whatever motivates Paul Ryan will remain behind closed doors, unless someone squeals, or he forgets when the mic is hot. Now, if he's too weak to call the house to order, I would recommend finding somebody who can. If the voters gave a damn they would vote the whole lot right out. But in their infinite complacency 95% of them will be reelected again..

    • Ah, so you do comprehend simplicity after all. I shall relish this rare lucid account..

I've noticed several design suggestions in your code.
