UBI: TANSTAAFL

  • UBI is not a "Free lunch," not by a long shot. If that's what you think it is, you need to do some research instead of swallowing libtard/libertarian talking points.

Next up: Unemployment Insurance is not a free lunch. Neither is a social security retirement pension. Neither is workman's comp.

    • All three of those things you mentioned are paid into either by employers, or by deductions against people's salaries, they're not the government saying "Don't bother working unless you really want to, here, have some FREE MONEY to live on!". Not even in the same category, and I don't beleive it'd even come close to working, I think it'd be a massive disaster.
      • Choosing between what you believe or what actually happened when it was done - I'll pick the results of the experiments over your opinion any time [www.cbc.ca]. And here [huffingtonpost.ca]. Documentary video, if you don't feel like reading or want more detail [youtube.com].

I've read about those before, and when that subject comes up, that's the sort of examples that gets trotted out -- mainly because that's the only examples that exist. However: I am far from convinced that it will scale up to the size of the United States. I've done the math, and the numbers are staggering to say the least. This way the incentive was there to work, and it didn't depress wages of other workers, like UBI would. It also cost far less than UBI. And it saved the health-care system money, which again is taxpayer-funded in Canada. Couple that with lower drop-out rates and improved health outcomes, and it was probably close to revenue-neutral giv
      • ...have some FREE MONEY to live on!

If robots produce everything for free, why not? And besides, business needs to quit demanding FREE labor. We have been in the midst of massive wage suppression for over 40 years now. To match everything else, minimum wage should be over 22 bucks an hour.

The only people that could be harmed by UBI are those in the financial industry. It would take the profit out of debt and collections. It would free the slaves. The thing is, when we throw away over half of what we produce

"Protozoa are small, and bacteria are small, but viruses are smaller than the both put together."
