Journal drinkypoo's Journal: Best Foakleys? 5

Surely someone around here knows where's the best slightly-reputable site to buy some knockoffs of the Oakley M2 XLs. I want to try them out for a while and see how they feel on my head. The sites I've found so far are registered straight outta China. Oakley has successfully driven the fakes off eBay and Amazon... the problem is, I'm not going to drop two hundred bucks on some glasses that might give me a headache, like most glasses do.

Best Foakleys?

  • I've seen lots of sites selling clearly counterfeit oakleys and bragging about their prices. Over at deals.woot a discussion of one of them somehow became on ongoing list of new ones that have since popped up [woot.com]; the last one still seems to be active but who knows if you would ever receive a product from them at all. As you said they generally pop up straight out of China, and Oakley is usually pretty quick to get them shut down.

It's the fit. Most glasses squeeze my temples. I have a big, lumpy head. Way way back in the day I got a scratched-up pair of Oakley Mambos and they changed my life. Mambo begat the M frame, a non-folding option for active people with large heads. It's got little notches in it for your helmet straps and so on. They also make bitchin' driving sunglasses. They are however somewhat fragile, and quite spendy...

Have you tried ray-bans? I have a rather large melon myself, and have found the generally fit better than the other brands at the major retailers. On the matter of helmets I myself have to usually special order helmets (at least for the bicycle); the new "one size fits most" size that Giro uses does not fit me (though their XL size is a bit too large; go figure).

As I have been wearing prescription eye glasses for decades, I have found that indeed you generally get what you pay for; it seems that sungl

        • Yeah, Sunglass hut doesn't even carry M-frames any more, let alone any other really big glasses. Or at least, that's what I ran into last time I ran into one. The XL Giro helmet fit my dome OK :)

      • Get some with wire frame and just bend them. Problem solved.
