Journal snowgirl's Journal: More BillDog, less RailGunner 28

I want more people like BillDog to have the perspective, and voice of the right. People like RailGunner take the rhetoric up to 11, and it drowns out all the sanity of their arguments.

At least BillDog is willing to sit down discuss things rationally, understand your point of view... and then dismiss you as evil. (Kidding, slightly... ok, I'm joshing with a bit of fact, and a bit of fiction.)

More BillDog, less RailGunner

  • There is another important difference between Bill Dog and RailGunner that you overlooked - at least in this journal entry. Bill Dog honestly believes what he writes here, and honestly believes that the schism he sees between "left" and "right" is as fundamental as good and evil - and irreconcilable.

RailGunner, on the other hand, believes nothing that he writes here. He intentionally posts contradictory information through the guise of a conservative idiot here, and throws conservative hissy fits to mak
    • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooh. I get it now. He's a parodist. Stupid Poe's Law...

Ok, so now that I know that he's just doing it for the jollies, I can just ignore him, right?

      • He's a parodist.

You could say that, yes. Although Weird Al is a true parodist, and I wouldn't insult Weird Al by suggesting this guy belongs in the same class (if Weird Al scores a 10 on the humor scale, this guy pulls about 1.5 on a really good day), I think it is generally more fair to call this guy a troll.

Ok, so now that I know that he's just doing it for the jollies, I can just ignore him, right?

That is one option you have. I took a slightly different tack and added him to my friend list - then I get a message on slashdot anytime he posts a new journal entry. Why might I want to be updated on a troll's

        • That is one option you have. I took a slightly different tack and added him to my friend list - then I get a message on slashdot anytime he posts a new journal entry. Why might I want to be updated on a troll's journal entries you might ask? Because they seem to often come out on otherwise dull days for me at work, and they often make me laugh when I imagine someone trying to actually express those opinions with a straight face (which sadly doesn't seem to be him primary aim) !

His rhetoric is the same as the people that make me want to puke... sure they're funny for like half a minute, but then their glaring misinformation starts pissing me off, and then I get into horrible gut wrenching arguments with them... the kind where you dread even refreshing your comment list, because all you're going to do is see more idiot rhetoric.

Oh, and congratulations on being mentioned directly in one of his journal entries. He didn't do that with me until shortly before I came to realize he's as phony as a three dollar bill; hence it looks like caught his attention more quickly.

This is like congratulating me that my cancer is spreading faster than yours. I would rather not have another stupid bat-shit right-wing nut to deal with.

          • His rhetoric is the same as the people that make me want to puke... sure they're funny for like half a minute, but then their glaring misinformation

Sometimes it helps to remember that he is fully aware that he is providing misinformation. He knows that the special brand of logic he presents holds less water than a screen door. He's getting laughs out of making the conservative cause look so absurd. You can opt to play along, or you can opt to ignore him.

and then I get into horrible gut wrenching arguments with them

I don't think you're reading his replies correctly if the discussions with him end up "gut wrenching". Perhaps "vomit inducing" might be reasonable, but I think you might be playing incorrectly if

            • Perhaps it is time for you to step away from the fake for a while, then. While he will eventually delete his journal entries, his comments will remain (as well as the comments he posts in the journal entries that he will delete). So if the game with him isn't fun for you now, you can always come back to it later and get a laugh.

That's pretty much how I operate anymore. I know I can't take a lot of the BS, so I just kind of push it away for awhile... I have to have it in small doses, or my "allergies" flair up.

Nothing about the person and their rhetoric is harmful to me, it just causes an autoimmune response, with my mind flying into a tizzy over it for no good reason.

      • a parodist

A good parodist will make a parody to amuse others. This guy, however, makes a parody to amuse himself. From his point of view, amusing others is just a happy side effect, and if it happens not at all then oh well. He fits well within the slashdot definition of troll [slashdot.org]:

A Troll might mix up vital facts or otherwise distort reality, to make other readers react with helpful "corrections." Trolling is the online equivalent of intentionally dialing wrong numbers just to waste other people's time.

      • No, I am not a parodist. damn_registrars claims this in an effort to try and discredit me, because he's still got serious butthurt from the last time I stomped him in a debate.

In other words, damn_registrars is a miserable little piece of shit.
        • No, I am not a parodist.

I think we are in agreement there for reasons I already stated. You may be a parody, but you are undoubtedly not in the leagues of any great parodists, past or present.

But either way, you are a fake. Possibly a glutton for punishment as well, but nonetheless a total and complete fake.

          try and discredit me

Rather difficult to discredit something that has no credit to begin with...

          he's still got serious butthurt

I'm not sure what you think you did to my butt - or why you are interested in it. I guess this may just be your homophobia charade falling apart

          • I guess this may just be your homophobia charade falling apart.

OMG, now the "homosexual stalker" thing is making more sense... he's one of THEM homophobes... you know, the kind that hate homosexuals because they can't stop hiring rentboys.

          • You respond just like I would expect someone with a serious case of butthurt to respond.
As far as which debate, how about the Stimulus one? Remember how you'd get all butthurt when I referred to it as Porkulus?

So what's the unemploymnt rate again? Yeah, Porkulus failed. Miserably. Told you it would, and now you're all butthurt that your guy Obama comletely sucks.

You know, just like I told you he would.
            • Porkulus failed. Miserably.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were president of the bank :)

            • As far as which debate, how about the Stimulus one?

I certainly don't recall such a discussion (no discussion with you is ever worthy of being called a "debate") resulting in anything resembling a "victory" for you. If anything your constant dodginess and habit of trying to redefine everything in sight was laughable - although again perfectly in character for you. If you thought that you somehow caused "butthurt" in the discussion, you should be able to easily provide a reference to the discussion - it is easier for you to find it in your comment history

    • You're not a Morton Downey Jr fan?

You are correct. In fact, I cannot stand the people of his ilk. Even though they're humorous for about 8 point 5 seconds, they quickly wear upon me until I want to start tearing hair out of my head...

I've destroyed keyboards arguing with people like them...

      • Eh, to me, it's all water off a duck's back.. He, Rush, Beck, etc, are all shtick, their fans are loons. Just like with RG there, the party's (or religion) the shtick, led by a psychotic charismatic, and he's the fanatic. Got the same with the "liberal" right wingers who think they're actually liberal, and people like RG can't see anything past them. That's the edge of his flat earth. I find him hard to take seriously because I just don't want to believe people are that dumb. Then I read some of the warning

        • Just like with RG there, the party's (or religion) the shtick, led by a psychotic charismatic, and he's the fanatic.

Being a Germanophile, I carry the very strong anti-psychotic-charismatic-leader trait, just like the Germans themselves. Incendiary rhetoric like his and theirs upset me, because Germans and Germanophiles know just how badly letting a charismatic leader into power can be.

I'm not saying that anyone is as bad as a particular party, or leader... I have no evidence to support that particular position. Rather what I'm saying is that someone really fucked up the playing field for that group of people, and it i

          • Always remember that "incendiary rhetoric" is a non issue when compared to the response. Ultimately that's all that matters. The best response to a charismatic is to turn your back. If they have your attention at all, they have you. Trying to "take him out" will only result in a replacement. You have to confront the irrationality directly. Focus on the followers. They need therapy, not a lecture. (Yes, RG needs help, not condemnation.. remember he acts on conditioned reflex, very pavlovian... judge not.. bl
