The Expendables

  • No Jean-Claude Van Damme. I'm disappointed. I saw a preview for that last night and it looks like the kind of movie that you need to leave your brain at home (after giving a couple of swift kicks) in order to appreciate the fine film. Either that or be a UFC fan, but I repeat myself.

    • Yes, JCvD was the first I noticed too. No Vin Diesel either. I'm sure I can think of more if I'd bother.
      • As I mentioned in my JE, the only notable absences are JCVD, Norris and Seagal. Diesel, and possibly the Rock, would have made nice additions, but were certainly not required, IMO.
        • Doesn't Jean Reno count? Mel Gibson? Jeff Goldblum?

          Okay, fine.

Anyway, also check out the character names: Yin Yang, Toll Road, Dan Paine, Hale Ceasar, Cross Dresser, Gagged Hostage... is this action flick written by the Pythons?

          • No, almost, and hell no.
            • But Jeff was in all those big blockbusters! ID4! Jurassic Park! They were box office successes due to his star power, you know.

Clearly these movie makers don't care about making a ton of money, or they'd have found a role for him.

Just their little way of keeping you from having to expend even the slightest amount of brain power. The plot holes are just there to drive cars through during the chase.

            That would be teh awesome!

JCvD never did much for me. I did always kind of like Norris, but he seemed a bit too over the top many times. I prefered Martial law to Walker Texas Ranger. The Rock would've been good. I enjoyed The Rundown. But on a more improtant note, I have no recollection about your JE at all. Sorry I missed it.
          • This [imdb.com] is well worth your time, however.
            • Wow. I'll have to netflix that. When I fisrt got there and saw "JCVD" I thought it was page and he had changed his name to JCVD like Prince did his name change. Then I realized it was a movie :-)
          • JCvD never did much for me.

The only movies I liked him in were Bloodsport and JCVD. In Bloodsport he had some humility to him and only seemed to regain it in JCVD.

      • I missed the omission of Vin Diesel initially. I think he peaked really quick, got a bit too full of himself, and has been mostly absent every since. No one in Hollywood is ever that big.

Oh very much so. All the better if you feed your brain bucket(s) of popcorn whilst you're at it, too. Much like a porno, it seems they're going to view the plot as a tenuous way of linking action scenes together.

1 + 1 = 3, for large values of 1.

Working...
