Journal Silly Man's Journal: dev./..org 3

I dunno about others, but I am getting the impression that /. develops on its production servers or it is 0wn3d.

I am getting javascript errors that D2 doesn't exist. Therefore, I can't mod anything up or down.

When clicking to expand a comment, it brings it up in a completely new page with only that comment and it's children (I hope this is a bug and not a new feature, it is annoying)

I am seeing the right column disappearing, no ads at times (I like ads :) ) and sometimes missing formatting of pages (bad/missing CSS)

This is happening in IE and Firefox. Firefox on Mac, IE on PC (of course).

  • I'm getting the D2 error too.

  • Slashdot has no development servers, only production servers and crashing production servers. They decided instead of investing in development servers to invest in a room full of monkeys to write random code to try out on the production servers. This is why slashdot usually runs best early in the morning, before the monkeys have woken up to start writing new code.

There is a rumor that version 2.0 of the room full of monkeys that they purchased also includes a hippo to digest the code before it goes to the server, but that has not yet been confirmed. Furthermore it is not clear that slashdot can obtain the required capital for that upgrade, so we may have to stay with the current version for a while yet.
  • Suddenly started working again a couple of hours ago. If it's still erroring out for people, then I'm pretty sure it really is this varnish cache thingy they've got screwing up.

BTW, expanding comments in the page is part of D2. Without D2, you can't expand comments so it opens them in a new page like the old slashdot did.
