Journal stoolpigeon's Journal: SCII Beta, Parenthood, Changes 4

Installing the Starcraft II client took a while. There was a gig and a half to download for the installer and then 14 or so patches that each needed to be downloaded and installed. That all finished yesterday and last night I played and won my first game. It was 1 v 1 on the beginner level so nothing to brag about. It was fun, but there is a lot I need to learn about the new game.

My daughter was walking around the house yesterday singing a song she created, "Turtles all the way down". This gave me great satisfaction.

Our life looks to be entering a period of significant change and transition. I found out yesterday that in a couple couple weeks we'll be packing up the 5 of us and heading to Colorado for 5 weeks of cross-cultural training. We've lined up someone to stay in our place while we are gone - which is good. All this is in anticipation of our possibly leaving the US, maybe as soon as January. It's all still quite up in the air, but there is a decent chance we'll all be moving to Budapest. Things should be more nailed down by the start of fall, if not sooner. (I hope anyway) There are a number of things that could alter the timing or make it not happen at all that still need to occur.

I'm so far behind on book reviews it isn't even funny. I need to try an knock a couple out before I leave. We'll see. I've been reading, I just haven't had the time to sit down and write. While it may not seem like it reading my reviews, I put a significant amount of effort and time into writing them.

Wow, that's got to be exciting! Congratulations!

  • I lived for a few years in Germany, courtesy of the Department of the Army, and found it deeply enriching. I hope your family gets to live abroad for a while as well. Your children will be much the better for it, I think, just as I think I am much the better for having lived overseas. Magyar culture is rich and old. The Magyars, along with the Poles, caused the Soviets a lot of problems in the middle of the last century.

  • I'm not sure where in CO you'll be going but there is a certain @SamTheButcher up there who is worth the effort of meeting if you can.

I am very excited for you and your family about the potential move. One of the nicer thigns is that from the bits and pieces you've written about your kids, they sound like they will really appreciate the experience and will make the most out of it. Plus it'd be awesome knowing someone in Budapest the next time i visit. (Which, coincidentally would also be the first:-)

Interesting move. Will be fun to read about.

Remember to say hello to your bank teller.
