Journal Corporate Troll's Journal: Quote of the day 4

Saw this on facebook this morning:

"It's like everyone agrees that a car should have rubber tires and then Microsoft brings out a car with stone tires and expects all roads to be made using Microsoft rubber" -- Jeremy Naus on Microsoft Networking

I thought it was a very good car analogy :-)

The guy is someone who went to University with me. I asked him if I could re-use it, he agreed but I needed to quote him. Consider it done. :-)

  • Both WIN7 and OSX are fucking nightmares to network locally in a mixed environment. Thank god for third party software.

    And Linux, of course.
    • And what is the problem to network Mac OSX? I haven't yet had the pleasure of yet trying Microsoft's latest and greatest, but I've been networking Macs with Linux servers since Mac OSX public beta, using NFS, SMB, and netatalk, and I haven't found it to be particularly hard. Even now, with Snow Leopard, and the previous netatalk version, I've had no problems at all.

However, I've never tried to integrate Macs into Active Directory, and that could well be a problem.

What kind of issues have you had with Mac OS

      • You really want me to answer all that? The point is, it's 2010 - I shouldn't have to be even thinking of jumping through hoops, let alone going through half the crap I have to.
  • ...with the emphasis on 'slightly'. I *have* managed to get our two Macs at work to play on our Windows Server 2003 network and access most network resources, but it was by no means obvious how to accomplish a lot of it. :|
