That's why I laugh at one of my co-workers, who has in many ways been on the same "the dollar is doomed" kick as you are - not because he believes the dollar is doomed (so do I), but rather his response, which is to "buy 'gold'". I've pointed out that he doesn't really own gold, he owns pieces of paper that promise-pinkie-swear to deliver to him some gold under some circumstances.
