Journal Michael O-P's Journal: Disable "Disable Advertising?"

So, recently I noticed a checkbox in the upper right part of my screen labeled "Disable Advertising" and the text box going on to explain:

"As our way of thanking you for your positive contributions to Slashdot, you are eligible to disable advertising."

Now I certainly appreciate the gesture, but I have problems with this in a couple of ways:

  1. I haven't made many positive contributions to Slashdot. I comment rarely, and of my few submissions, none have been accepted. Maybe being positive means I keep my mouth shut.
  2. The only way they have to thank me is to keep the site operating. Since I'm too cheap to pony up for a subscription, paying slight attention to ads helps me feel like I'm contributing (albeit barely) to the ongoing subsistence of this site. Heck, I've even clicked through a few times over the years.

To that end, I actually want the advertisements. Is there a way to re-enable them? Craziness, I know, but, believe it or not, Slashdot has served me well over the years, expanding my knowledge, broadening my perspective, and just entertaining me.
