Journal timothy's Journal: Ubuntu notifications: astoundingly annoying!

It sounded like an interesting idea. Smart people, trying to make a cool thing, and I mean no disrepect. But the reality of constant pop-up notifications in Ubuntu 9.04 is to make me curse it as acting like Windows. Maybe not *exactly* like Windows, but in spirit. "Obnoxious and intrusive" surely is not the intent of the programmers and designers, but that's how it comes off to me. However, the vast majority of them are just from Jabber (well, Pidgin), so perhaps I'll be able to get used to the ones that remain, because I finally found how to disable them in Pidgin, via this page.

In short: Pidgin / Tools / Plug-ins / uncheck "libnotify popups" -- much better now.

I guess some people like the no-choice pop-up messages, but I find them grating and rude. (Not the content of the messages themselves, but having no way to turn them off.)
