*blinks, looks around* Hmmmm....wha?

Four years. Wow.

I've just realized that I've spent nearly every free moment of the last four years of my life playing WoW. That's why I stopped posting here, and really haven't been heard of on any part of the net except within the game. What an unbelievable time sink. Even worse than Slashdot!

I quit a few weeks ago. I'll probably go back to playing at some point, but I'd really like to include other things in my life again. I even made a facebook profile.

I have no idea whether any of my old /. friends are still here or not, but I figured I'd post just to let anyone who is around know that I'm awake.

For what its worth, I'm still married, I have an 18 month old son named Rowan, and I'm living near Denver. My website is doing well, but I'm still working a day job to help pay the bills and get benefits. Life has been pretty quiet, which is very nice.

I'll probably post more later...

  • I have wondered what happened to you...

  • And there are many new ones. It's always good to see someone return.

  • Hey I can't even recall why I friended you, but I'm glad you are posting again anyway :-)

Wow, quite a bit has changed in my life in four years...

  • ...my wife just started playing WoW.

Nice to see some folks return to the fold, although like the man above I can't remember why I friended you. =)

  • by Chacham ( 981 )

Can't remember why, like above. :)

  • 4 years, and yet you have an 18 old son? I'd say, you did something else beside play WoW ;-) Seriously, WoW is a very dangerous game. My wifes brother was pretty much addicted for two years and now he is screwing up his whole schooling.. Long story, and this is not the place to tell it.

You must somehow have found a correct balance: 4 years of WoW without affecting your family life sounds very unlikely.

    Totally unrelated joke ;-) [hoax-slayer.com]

    • 18 months old, so at least it's not chronologically impossible. And I said almost every free minute, which doesn't include all of the minutes I spent with my family. Indeed, I quit playing WoW for three months after my son was born, but I didn't have time for posting on /. either.

It's easier to find a balance when your wife plays too.

      • Sorry, I meant writing "months" but I somehow omitted, so chronologically 4x12 > 18... My point still stands. The point is that many even forget about their family due to WoW, and you obviously didn't.

It's easier to find a balance when your wife plays too.

Ooooowkay... Now there you see: she saw it as time spent together. I'm married to a non-tech, non-gaming wife and this would never fly.

Poor kid, growing up in a WoW-ex-addict home... ;-) Wife stopped playing too, I hope, or your kid will be a Level

  • I didn't think I'd get any comments! I don't remember why you guys friended me either, though I remember you. I probably said something you either loved or hated about politics ;-).
  • There were a bunch of people with your name on FB, so look for facebook@webhackande.se and ye shall find.
