Journal morgan_greywolf's Journal: Oh, joy! Moderation abuse! 48

This is an open letter to my friend, the personal troll.

Okay, this is getting old. Someone, who obviously has a couple of sock puppet accounts (and nothing better to do), went and modded a bunch of my posts as trolls today. They must really hate me, because they waited until two of their accounts got mod points, and then blew 8 of their 10 mod points on lil' ol' me.

Probably the same person who's been trolling me for the past couple of weeks.

Whoever you are, if you had some testicular fortitude, you wouldn't hide behind socket puppets and AC trolls. I'm asking you now, as a man (or woman as the case may be), to do the honorable thing and post, not AC, with your real account, right here. Then we can discuss your issue with me, one-on-one via e-mail if you prefer.

I seriously doubt you'll do the honorable thing because you've already shown that you're a coward with no honor.

  • Did my best to fix the latest abuses.

    • These stupid fuckers are going to lose all their mod points so fast. Seems like they aren't getting them anymore, I wonder why? LOL, Slashdot at its best. Dumb punks come in and think they own the place. You fuckstains need to learn to pick your battles.

    • Yeah, but in your case you know who it is. This person flames me as AC and, to my knowledge, hasn't flamed me with his regular account.

Can't honestly say that I do. I have my suspicions, centered around a few individuals who are more lurkers than posters, but if you're talking about either RG or Pudge, I have strong doubts.

If Pudge has moderated any of my comments, my guess would be that those would be relatively low in number. Despite having unlimited mods, he strikes me as being far too judicious in nature to be so, ahem, liberal with his mods.

RG, by nature of having long periods of
        • Regarding the hyper-con accounts and moderation, I view it this way:

Pudge of course works for slashdot. He has slightly more intellect than a grapefruit in most of his posts, but he is aware that the economy is tanking rapidly and there isn't much demand for emotional third-rate programmers right now. Hence he is careful on how he shows up around here (as much as he is capable of such) and likely would not abuse his moderation privileges for fear of losing his job.

RailGunner likely has had perhaps a t
          • What are 'hyper-con' accounts? Are these people with the 'editor' flag?

            • What are 'hyper-con' accounts?

Hyper-con refers to the hyper conservatives. Pudge and RailGunner are prime examples. Around here the hyper-cons generally treat slashdot as if it were an extension of the drudge report or townhall.com. The hyper-cons are so conservative that they generally make Pat Buchanan appear to be a semi-reasonable guy.

              • Okay, so if we added the term 'hyper-con' to your sig like this:

No two of these terms are synonymous: Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Obama Administration, Hyper-Con

that would make it a false statement. Gotcha. ;)

  • ... that contacting Taco can help these situations. I can neither deny nor support the claim, but if the problem is more consistent in your case it may be worth a try.

I have certainly been the target of hacktacular idiots with moderator points (probably not these [slashdot.org] idiots [slashdot.org], for reasons I discussed here [slashdot.org]). Though my own experiences with Malda do seem to indicate he prefers to be more hands-off, it may be worth a try if someone is really trying to smear you consistently with bad moderations.
  • If my memory serves, last week I caught one of your comments modded troll. The mod stood out like sore thumb and it was a pleasure to mod it back up.

This was such a blatantly bad mod I had the feeling it was vindictiveness at play so I monitored my mod for about 8-10 hours just for the hell of it. It remained unchanged.

Good luck with this childish nuisance.

  • But, I'm pretty shocked that people take mod points so seriously, from either end... I really don't give mine a second thought, maybe I've just been lucky.
  • it's only mod points burning.

Anyway, friend, you just keep saying what's on your mind. Do not let some little sad twerp with a chip on his shoulder and mod points to burn get under your skin.

Anyway, it all comes out in the meta-mod wash, anyway.

  • IT WAS ME! I DID IT!

But not really! I'm too lazy to pull off that kind of thing, I used up all my trolling on IRC years ago, and I like you!

  • Some of the posters here DESERVE it, but you do not. I have always enjoyed reading yours (and some others).
  • Just a quick post to say I'm sorry to hear that someone is abusing their mod points like this. It might well be it's only one account too, I regularly get 15 mod points at a time these days, for whatever reason.

I have posts by friends set up at +1 anyway, so I'll be sure to mod you up if there are any signs of abuse. Assuming your post is clever, but they usually are. :) .max
