Journal Mer_panacea's Journal: Illusion 4

I used to post a comment in someone's blog that love gives us everything and deprives us of nothing or something like that. Now I challenge my previous statement. Love gives us illusion and deprives us of all.
Therefore we love?

  • You speak of subjective emotions connected to specific points in time.
I prefer the formulation of the late German theologian/philosopher Paul Tillich [wikipedia.org]:

Mankind is existentially estranged from the essential goodness of creation in God's image.

Regardless of whether you subscribe to a Christian worldview, the concept of estrangement is a challenging model for describing human behavior.
Tillich argues that love in its various forms is about seeking the union of a pair of souls which are essentially singular, but existentially plural.

      Probably, so.

Mrs and Mr Mer have been in love for many years, I have stopped seeking for another love like so many years as well. If I lost her or if she said goodbye to me for unknown reasons, I'm sure I will be at a loss so sometimes I've got half a mind that love has been giving me an illusion -this happiness lasts for good, and will deprive me of everything if I rely on it too much.

As to Tillich's word, >Mankind is existential

  • It's a word. Make of it what you will.

One way to make your old car run better is to look up the price of a new model.
