Journal frankie's Journal: Cabinet Casting Call 3
My starting point for an Obama Administration Dream Team would be:
- early Bush appointees who resigned in protest over policy disagreements:
- Colin Powell: State? Defense? Education? wherever he prefers
- Christine Whitman: EPA, doing everything she announced in 2001 but was countermanded
- Paul O'Neill: Treasury? Commerce? Interior?
- who else did I miss?
- late Bush appointees who have widespread support:
- Robert Gates: Defense
- I'm sure there are others
- interesting outsiders of all stripes:
- hmm... ran out of steam to finish this journal entry, help me out here

I think he would be a good candidate for a few different positions, but alas I don't think he will be asked for various reasons. I keep hoping Bill Richardson will get picked for Sec. of State though :-)
Ug. Not Christie Whitman (Score:2)
You've got Bush fatigue where Whitman is concerned. Everyone I knew in the New Jersey D.E.P (Department of Environmental Protection) hated her when she was governor, and I never heard anyone voice any surprise over her term at the epa.
That she wasn't bad enough for Bush is more a reflection of how anti-environment HE is, rather than any display of virtue on her part.
I'd rather see Chuck Hagel for defense or state, though frankly, Gates is doing a good job as sec defense, and would be a good choice to stay.

Thanks, didn't know how NJ felt about her enviro record.
The main things I remember were that 3 times in 2001, Whitman's EPA announced a plan to implement a campaign promise from the Bush 2000 platform, and each time the White House quickly issued a retraction (of both the plan and the plank). It was Mercury, CO2, and one other issue I forget.
But the gripping hand is that Whitman would probably rather keep running the RLC, which makes it an even BETTER idea for Obama to ask her first, before reluctantly turn
