Then they modded down five of my comments in a row. Why doesn't the system catch this kind of obviously abusive moderation? Oh right, because this is slashdot, not someplace with competent employees.

If moderation on slashdot were intelligently designed, this person's abusive moderation would have been autodetected and they would have been banned from moderation permanently.

Another way to look at it is that by yourself being the target of an idiot mod-bomber you spared someone from being unfairly moderated down by the same idiot.

I know that at first it's frustrating to see people game the system. But as long as you don't get the pink page of death, does it really matter? I got it once from a mod-bombing, and when I came back, my karma was already back to excellent by others modding me up. The system isn't perfect, but neither am I, so I figure it's a fair trade-off, and for the most part it kind of works.

You've been here long enough that like me it likely did not move your karma in the least.
Well, since karma is kapped to 50, that's not all that long. Likewise, it only takes a few days of modbombing before you no longer post at +1, unless you're actively earning new karma. Of course, yes, I do that. Consequently, even when I've been modbombed hard I've only lost my bonus (momentarily) twice.

I read the comments, and look to see who wrote it if I think the comment is above average in some way, or otherwise stands out.
So if I were to hand out that many down mods (I very, very rarely down mod, try to use the points to uplift the good stuff), I suppose I could theoretically hit the same author 5 times in a row (if they didn't have a sig).
But yeah, in your case it was probably a jerk trying to find the " -100, I disagree " button.
