Fawking trolls. OSDN already does this, dumbshit:
They know your domain because you connected from there. And they will use it for "different purposes" which is not limited. Duh!
Do you think you're some kind of genius that you suddenly realized that you type in your email address, you click onto a website, and the site can put this information together?? Wow Einstein. You are too damn smart for me.
Oh, you wanted something else?
"Inform users of the potential of being banned, possibly subnet-banned. ... Include a discription of how comment moderation affects this list..."
It's OPEN SOURCE CODE, NUMBNUTS. There's no possible way they can "discribe" their computer algorithms better than the SOURCE CODE ALREADY DOES.
Ooh poor baby, he is leet hacxor, but he can't do math. Wah! Wah! Baby thinks the world owes it to him to explain how websites work, in one-syllable words. Here, let me try:
YHBT. YHL. HAND.

There's nothing unusual about any of this. If someone asks *me* a question on the mailing list I answer it. If someone anonymously rants in the comments I usually ignore it. There aren't enough hours in the day for me to explain crap in private discussions.
Join the mailing list. Ask me a question. Get answers.

And I sign my name to what I say. Have the balls to do the same. Your opinions are all valid. I'm not going to git ya, or tell your boss, or post your home phone number in public forums. Nor will I anonymously attack you and your work. Show me at least that much respect.
I work my ass off to make this site the best it can be. You don't have to agree with every policy decision, but you don't have to be childish and hide behind smoke and mirrors.
Anyway, I've said enough. I have actual work to do. As I said before, if people have questions about the function of slashcode, be it IPIDs or security, definitely ask on the mailing list. Policy questions are sorta offtopic, but I'll answer them, and get them added to the FAQ if thats appropriate. Truth is people rarely bother asking me policy questions. They simply aren't "Frequently Asked", rather they are "Frequently Bitched About" in discussion boards throughout the net. And in Slashdot's case, they are usually deservedly moderated as offtopic ;)

Things are always in flux around here. Nothing is set in stone. I think thats what everyone forgets. We are constantly changing things. The very problem you are describing is known, and we have a solution that will eventually be put into place. But you didn't bother asking, you just started ranting.
Now I really have got to quit posting in here ;)

Slashdot *stories* have a lifespan, and the whole discussion system was designed with that in mind. There have been design tradeoffs because of that. Using a simple mailing list is far easier for having a perpetual discussion for a relatively small group of people. Slash was designed for discussions with thousands that only last a day or 2.
