Journal Otter's Journal: I've known *that* for a long time... 4

I was intrigued to see the "Road Rage Linked To Automobile Bumper Stickers" article. As I mentioned there, I'd observed that long ago, and giving extra room to heavily-stickered vehicles is one of the cornerstones of safety in my bicycle commuting.

Comment of the day, unfortunately buried under a torrent of projection about how people with Jesus fish are hate-filled bigots who think they're better than other people, is Anne Nonymous.

  • Bumper stickers have made laugh, groan, and sigh. Usually they just elicit a, "Meh." But I have yet to find one that I want to see on the back of my car every single day. I'm the same way with tattooes. I've yet to see anything that I want to wake up to seeing on my skin for the rest of my life.

That being said, the closest I ever came to adorning my truck was the Evolve fish [evolvefish.com] (top of the page - though I saw the "procreate" one towards the bottom of the page in a parking lot just yesterday).

I dunno -- looking at the page I don't get a) why I would use my car as a platform to denigrate other people and b) why public identification with one religion should be so deeply resented while identical displays for other religions are adorably clever. The projection I mentioned before seems to be in full force there.

But I agree, about both stickers and tattoos.

      • Very much so. My eyes popped the first time I saw the "Procreate" one, which I assume is a direct response to the Jesus-Fish-eating-the-Darwin-Fish emblam. The Evolve Fish I'm OK with because I see it as evocating personal growth which I think is good regardless of any other consideration.
  • I hadn't noticed that but it seems obvious now. Last time I was horribly tailgated (in my car) was by a vehicle with "aggressive" adornments. I would speculate there's a link between the driver and the complexity and cleverness of their stickers.

I agree with you too about the fish emblems; I saw a Cthulu fish which is a light hearted joke. I think if it was directed at anybody, it was directed at people who have unusual fish emblems.
