so the brand-spanking new Western Digital 40G drive refuses to work in my computer. Fuck 'em. I found an old 850M WD drive that will work just fine until I can stick a 20-30G drive in there. And it'll be a Maxtor this time, since I've never had a Maxtor drive go apeshit the way WD drives have.

Perhaps WD is just evil.

but now my son will have a computer of his own that he can completely fuck up if he so chooses. And it will have little impact on my or my wife's computers, which is a good thing. Its amazing how 15 month olds want to do everything that you do.

started with the EZ-bios software installing on the wrong drive, followed by the motherboard's bios refusing to acknowledge the presence of the new drive, followed by the system haning on boot, followed by Tom's Root Boot being able to find the new drive (since it doesn't need the bios), followed by the WD custom software refusing to work at all on boot, followed by me saying "fuck it, I'll stick this fucking drive in another system that won't give a fuck about it, and buy a new damn drive that'll work on this damn motherboard". all my old caviar drives kick ass... the new ones are by far flakier.
