Journal techpawn's Journal: Oh come on now 3

I'm not usually one to complain about the mod system. All in all it works well but when a comment with no moderation is marked as overrated that kind of seems like abuse to me.

I thought overrated was to be used if something is modded too high unfairly and you want to bring it back down. It wasn't a troll or flamebate so it got modded overrated as the only "logical" option to mod it down?
Personally, I don't think it deserved that, it provoked thoughtful debate on the topic. It just happens to be an unpopular viewpoint. Did I expect positive moderation from that post? No, not really. It wasn't deeply insightful or interesting but it didn't really need modded down unless some mods did not want the viewpoint shared. I've gotten modded down for nonsensical reasons before and didn't say a thing, but come on. At least use the proper moderation unless it's specifically to silence someone.

  • If I think something is "slightly good" and it deserves a 2, but it's 3 or higher, I'm likely to rate it "overrated." If it's a 5 but should only be a 2, I'm very likely to rate it "overrated."

Note that even though I think favorably of the reply, I'm still going to rate it overrated if it it's too high.
    • I understand that but in the more controversial topics it seems as though the negative mod points are used as -1 Disagree with crowd. Since that isn't an option people should just reply to the post allowing for a flow of ideas.

It's very hard to debate with a -1 overrated but easy to discuss differing opinions that may add to the discussion as a whole.
  • ...do not get reviewed in Meta-Moderation, so they're always abuse.
