Eee PC Available

Well, it looks like the Asus Eee PC is in stock at Amazon.com. It is the 4 gig model and is retailing at $399. That's a tad more than when I first heard about it, but it is still an incredible deal in my mind. Each new review that I've seen come out is much more positive than negative. (This ars review has tons of screen shots and great info.)

I don't have one in the budget right now, but I'm going to start saving. I have pretty much given up on using my laptop on an airplane. It is just too big. This little machine looks to be the perfect solution. This machine is, I think, perfect for hanging out at Panerra or Starbucks and doing a little browsing, or writing.

I laughed at that too. The one lowest review it got complains about it that way too - keyboard too small, screen too small, etc. Duh. That is the whole point. I think I might be able to swing one some time next year if I'm disciplined about saving.

I have been thinking of getting the Nokia n800 as an ebook reader and doing video skype calls around the house, but this might be even better.

I've been looking at the n800 myself. I wish the 810 wasn't so much more expensive. But you are right, the asus is a bit bigger and costs more - but it's also a lot more flexible.

I did see yesterday though, that they are looking to be able to run palm apps on the nokias. That is what got me looking at them. That makes them even more appealing to me. The palm thing is here. [linuxdevices.com]
