nightcats's Journal: Cell and Wifi on the Subway?

This is a point of real ambivalence for us New Yorkers: could we handle having cell phone access throughout the NYC subway system?

If you've ever been on one of those lines where the train goes above ground after a while (I do every day), then you've seen and heard the normal silence of subway life broken by the scramble and fuss of people making important communications: ordering Chinese takeout, arguing with a spouse, or just yakking to show how cool they look with their RAZR.

Personally, I live very well without cell access on the train. Admittedly, there are the occasional moments when I'd like to have Wifi access for the laptop while on the subway, but the specter of the annoyance factor is too daunting otherwise. May I be long gone from NYC when the day arrives that cell phones can be used in our underground sanctum.
