Journal Freston Youseff's Journal: **Sigh** 6

Sometimes I think that the world just doesn't like me. I got a B on my chemistry quiz today and am none too happy. Then I get home and somebody adds me as a foe! What did I do to deserve a freak?! People seem to like me on slashdot, I don't know why gazbo doesn't? Maybe he hates animé, well I won't appease you sir. Nothing comes between a man and his cartoons. So whatever your malfunction is, I'd be interested in hearing it, cause I hate to be in the wrong with anybody. :`(

  • Selecting someone as a Foe does not actually do anything to their posts, other than stick the red dot next to their name on your screen, and (optionally) marking down their posts a set number of points. The main purpose, combined with message preferences, is to let you screen the odd loon who may make the rounds on Slashdot.

I've selected one Foe, based on their posting history, which is, too say the least, a bit strange. The red dot is a warning to me in this case, so I don't make trouble for myself by trying to engage said Foe in rational conversation... :)

As to why you've got a Freak, that is one of the great mysteries of Slashdot. Unless you can find an instance of you and said Freak engaging on the same article, you have no material way of knowing their reasoning. If you think they're being silly, don't sweat over it. If they choose to have your bon mots hidden from their eyes, it's their loss, not yours.
    • Strangely, I have gained two more freaks since the Slashback story! I don't really understand this. I think it may have to do with opposition to my love of animé cartoons.
  • I posted a comment [slashdot.org] that explained a point of view and you posted a reply just to make fun of me. It was barely on-topic and you clearly only posted it to try and make out that I didn't know what I was talking about, and to laugh at my expense.

That is why I marked you as a foe - it's upsetting when people you don't know make fun of you.

    • Huh?!

I'm sorry, but from reading your message, his response, and your comment above, I can only conclude that you are either too thin-skinned (in which case, why are you posting on Slashdot?) or you're trying to gain visibility and kudos by making out you've been victimized. So, what's it to be?
    • Uh, because you're a thin-skinned weenie?
    • I only came across all this practically by accident, but...

Hmm, Like the previous posters on this, I had a look at that topic, and tried to figure out what offensive thing had been said. I figured you must have been talking about the comment about Outlook Express. That didn't appear to be making fun or anything. I looked back at this thread, found the name of the person (Freston Youseff) that you claimed had been, er, cruelly victimizing you, Gazbo. Looked back at the thread you gave...

WTF??? You consider that to be just making fun of you, and off-topic? I've had freaks call me a "Pedantic piece of shit" for no good reason, and you are making out to be some poor oppressed person because he said "What do you have to say about that?"

As your post was about stupid people maybe thinking they could install an X-Windowing System display server under Windows, and the topic was about Microsoff going after people with software names that might be confused as using their trademark, Freston (who I don't actually know) was pretty much on-topic in pointing out that actually it was possible to install an X server under Windows as he had done so.

Further, looking at most of your latest posts [slashdot.org] at this point in time, you appear to be a great big Troll, whereas, from looking at Freston's recent postings, the only reason I can imagine that he has apparently gained more Freaks, is your brand new signature proclaiming to the whole slashdot world how he is conducting some massive hate-campaign against you (whilst the exact opposite appears to be the case).

No, I'm not planning on marking you as a Foe, but it's not because I'm unsure if I've got you wrong, but in case you suddenly take it upon yourself to do the same thing to me- if I view with your posts hidden, I might never find out.

It is easier to write an incorrect program than understand a correct one.
