Journal LordBodak's Journal: How? 3

Sometimes life gets busy. And you realize that you have friends that live 20 minutes away and you haven't seen them in a few months. And the few months stretch to a few years...

How does that happen?

K and I have known each other for almost eighteen years. I've mentioned her here before when she got engaged. They've been married a year and a half and I haven't even met him! It's not something that's either of our faults, it's just the way life has gone.

So tonight I went to see Sara Evans in concert and K came with me. We got a chance to catch up like we haven't had in years-- in fact we realized it's been nearly three years since we even saw each other.

But what's amazing is that we can sit down and talk and it's just like nothing's changed-- like we're back in college sitting in the dorms talking for hours, like we used to.

And to me, that is a measure of a great friendship.

Oh, and Sara Evans was awesome.

  • One of my very best friends lives in Seattle. We're in Portland. I've seen her up ther twice in the last 6 years! One of the things that will happen this year is a visit. Especially since my younger stepson's friend just moved up there, too.
  • I've been thinking a lot about that myself. The best man in my wedding lives literally 5 minutes away from me, but I haven't seen him in probably 8 months. We are both busy, both married, I've got kids...etc, whatever the excuses might be. It bugs me that I haven't been over to see him more. And I need to before it becomes years.

Heck, I'm going over there tonight. If nothing else but to say hello and give him a hug.
  • I would have to say that I have noticed [slashdot.org] the same thing.

Interestingly, M (the engineer mentioned in the link above) went to the fights with Talinom and I last weekend. During the course of our conversation - I found out that he had both switched jobs and moved[1] about 6 months prior. It had just been more than 6 months since we had talked (excepting 2 calls coordinating going to the fights)!

    BTW, it's spelled MULTIPLY [multiply.com]. Friends don't make friends read /. :-D

[1] For stuck between two worlds values of moved. He
