Journal EnlightenmentFan's Journal: Moderation okay in moderation.... 3

Today, one of my comments got modded up to 5, my very first 5! (For being Funny.)

Then some heartless person modded it back down to 4. I'd like to have the same enthusiasm for my first "Overrated" mod as I did for my first 5, but the sincerity just isn't there.

Then somebody modded it back up to 5--I am happy again. I know how lame it is to care about this, but wouldn't it be even lamer not to admit it?

Moderation okay in moderation....

Comments Filter:
  • It felt great the first time I got a +5 mod for an Insightful and Funny comment. I think the Overrated mod is probably my least favourite since you can't metamoderate them and it doesn't give a reason why, so you can be unfairly modbombed.
  • If I ever get mod points to play with, I am going to use them to mod things up, not down.

When somebody mods a good comment up, /. gets better for all of us. Wasting mod points to call some guy trying to be funny a Troll--really, there's so much good stuff, why not look for that?

I can imagine modding down a real flame, where somebody was attacking another /.er (who wants to see that? only the moron who wrote it.) Otherwise, I plan to take my cue from Life of Brian: (whistling) "Always look on the bright side of life."

  • My first 5 was for funny, too. It was also modded down for 'overrated' and it made me sad. Don't mod down funnies just because you don't get the joke! Argh. Ok, like you, I shouldn't care. But I do anyway. :P

I've noticed several design suggestions in your code.
